Let’s be honest: most backpacks are garbage. I’m Jake, the founder of NEOBAG. For three years, I commuted from New Jersey to Manhattan. I bought the “cheap” Amazon bag, then the “fancy” designer bag. The cheap one fell apart in 4 months; the fancy one hurt my shoulders and looked like I was trying too hard.

One rainy morning on the PATH train, the bottom of my bag gave out, spilling my lunch and my laptop charger across a crowded car. That was it. I grabbed a beer with my brother-in-law, a materials guy, and we sketched a bag that focused on one thing: surviving the daily grind.
